Hate/Love from CRUSH
Hate/Love from CRUSH on Vimeo.
Created by the Leo Burnett Agency in Toronto, "This is the opening created for the 2010 Advertising and Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Awards. The film taps into an insight we think every creative feels - love for the business when things are going well, and hate, when things aren't."
This video seems to sum up the duality of corporate world and the two sided emotions many feel working within the environment. If you cannot relate to the video, consider yourself one of the lucky few.

Vincenzo Natali shortfilm 1997 "Elavated"
"Elevated" is a 1997 short film directed by Vincenzo Natali and co-written by him and Karen Walton, who also participated in the writing of Ginger Snaps.
Elevated is a phenomenal short film. A true horror-thriller, it employs a simple gimmick. The entirety of the film takes place on an elevator (kind of like my other favorite movies: Cube, Hard candy, Phonebooth, Buried, Nothing). From such a simple premise a remarkable amount of tension and horror is derived, delivered by a surprisingly diverse and dramatic shooting style in addition to excellent performances. The film begins with a woman and a man sharing an elevator at the end of the day. They are going down when a building security guard joins them. Covered in blood, he commandeers the elevator and sets it to go to the very top of the building. From there a tense psychological battle joins, as the security guard—not the most trustworthy of figures with his manic, panicked behavior, tries to convince the others that going down is not such a good idea.

Great use of stereotypes and characterisation as well as enviroment. Give this guy more money!

Christoffer Nolans Short Doodlebug
So I'm currently trying to stay away from any word of mouth on "Inception" as Im going to see it later today and the less I know the better. Ive seen the teaser trailer, but avoided the official one. So much so that I litterly stuck my head down in the popcorn bag while on the screening for Prince of Percia. I've been warming up with re-watching Memento (one of my favourite movies) and The Prestige (also just amazing in its own terms) and rented both the Norwegian film Insomnia and Nolan's remake as I'm sure Ile be wanting more after tonights premiere.
In my search of finding more about the works of the director ,I came upon a short he did 12-13 years ago. The style is familiar, and as much as the premise is more high concept, the action is bad. Never the less. It does the job. The short film, titled Doodlebug, was made in 1997, and stars Jeremy Theobald who also starred in Nolan’s debut feature "Following" (which is going to be released later this year)
I think you’ll readily identify themes that run throughout much of Nolan’s later work. Notably, matters of being, paranoia, the dark nature of the material etc.
Also adding the trailer for "Following"

"Connected" - Sci fi short
A sci-fi western Directed by Jens Raunkjær Christensen and Jonas Drotner Mouritsen from Denmark
Set in the distant future, Connected is a story about survival and greed with a post apocalyptic wasteland as its backdrop. Survivors of an unknown disaster shuffle through a desolate landscape, as it quickly becomes clear that not everybody has the strength to survive.
Visually this looks better then I though... unfortunately, the story is way short and under-worked. Too bad, because it could have become a great short since the premise was so intriguing
Anyhoo see it here: http://www.ov43.com/

Timelapse Reel# 5 from 599 Productions on Vimeo.
I love time-laps videos. They show the world in a whole new "light". They tell us about the buildings blinking and breathing, the skies dancing and moving, the traffic in the stars and just how small we all are.

The Spine. An animated short film by Chris Landreth
For The Spine, director and scriptwriter Chris Landreth joins forces again with producers Steve Hoban (Copperheart Animation), Mark Smith (Copperheart Animation) and Marcy Page (National Film Board of Canada), who had collaborated with him to make Ryan (2004) – Oscar winner for best animated short. Entirely computer animated, The Spine is a bold film whose dazzling artistic style pushes the limits of animated film. The Spine uses uniquely bizarre but strangely believable imagery, to tell the story of an ordinary married couple whose lives are in turn tragic, absurd and beautiful. The Spine was produced by the National Film Board of Canada in association with Copperheart Animation and C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, with the creative participation of Autodesk Canada CO. and Seneca College School of Communication Arts.

Smoke City - Underwater Love
Smoke City is a British band. Their music blends modern styles like acid jazz and trip hop, and borrows a lot from Brazilian styles like samba and bossa nova. They are best known for their single "Underwater Love", which was a major hit in 1996. The video to that song is notable for predating The Matrix in its use of bullet time motion. (!!!)

"There Will Come Soft Rains" by Tulyakhodzhayev
Uzbek director Nazim Tulyakhodzhayev’s short, animated adaptation of Ray Bradbury’s short story of the same name. The tale of a robotic house mindlessly continuing its tasks even after the human residents have been wiped out by nuclear war.
Orignal plot:
Set in August, 2026 in the city of Allendale, California, There Will Come Soft Rains details the daily tasks of a robotic house after its inhabitants have died in a nuclear war. The house is fully automated and sensitive to its owners and their requests and needs. Unaware of the absence of its owners, though aware of other external and internal disruptions, such as the weather and birds attempting to land on it, it continues to serve the dead family. Throughout the story, the house makes breakfast, disposes of it uneaten, and performs various domestic tasks.
Only one living thing makes an appearance in the story: the family dog, which had been slowly dying from the radiation of the nuclear war. It makes its way back to the house only to die; its corpse is then swiftly removed by the house's automated cleaning robots.
The author at one point mentions the shapes of the family's silhouettes which are permanently burned onto the side of the house (as was exemplified at Hiroshima) when they were vaporized by the radiation.

Oktapodi
Here's another great short film from the French animation school, Gobelins. This one got a lot of attention at SIGGRAPH, though it's been floating around for a while. Great animation, and the rigging on the Octopi is pretty impressive. This clip might not be on YouTube for long, so enjoy it while you can!

And CGI heads continue to creep me the fuck out.
Although these are some of the better facial tests Ive seen in, its still weird. Pendulum Studios have just opened their facial animation division, "Alter Ego" that will provide facial support for games to movies.
