WipEout to use MotorStorm game engine

It has been confirmed that the new WipEout title due for release on PS3 will be using the same game engine as MotorStorm. This news could prove to be very interesting, as it indicates that the same core technology is behind both games. It is reasonable to assume then, that they should carry a similar look and feel to the player.

The WipEout series has always been about screaming round a track at break-neck speeds with a very smooth and unfaltering frame rate and nothing less would appeal to fans in the new generation.

At MotorStorm’s end of the spectrum, you’ve got the dust and dirt that’s been thrown at us. At the other, you have the sleek lines of a high-technology future world that WipEout fans have become used to.

If the engine has to support a new WipEout game then it’s fair to say we can expect great things if the MotorStorm developers take advantage of it. We should expect nothing less than perfect frame rates and that smooth flowing feeling that few other titles ever accomplish.

The MotorStorm team are taking a session at the upcoming Game Developer Conference, discussing game physics as applied in the game. Topics include destruction of objects in the environment and persistent, deformable terrain. It looks like we’re going to see a few new innovations when the game is released.

Here some videos from the gem on PS1. Best.. game.. ever...

Bonus:Hardcore wipeout
