Tried to animate the C.A.T. rig that follows in Autodesks 3DS MAX 2011.

It wasn't as easy as I thought. Its a brand new system and as with everything else new, its a bit wonky at first.

I had big troubles with the hand following the barrel of the shotgun as "Link constraint" diden't work, so I hand-animated it. (also the gun is way too big for the arms, so the swivel angle of the arms flipps) The annoying thing is that C.A.T. puts a key on every link/bone made down the hierarchy, making it a bit unstable after a while. Fun test though

We've got an exclusive premiere of standout track "The Grid," as remixed by dancefloor masters Crystal Method. Cant wait!

Daft Punk's ominous original, which the duo cut with an 85-piece orchestra and rounded out with movie dialogue from Jeff Bridges, gets revamped by the Crystal Method to sound like a club-banger for the apocalypse, with zooming synth lines that slowly get replaced by the swelling strings of the movie's main theme. Nice! And its really nice to see that crystal method is at it again. Love those guys!

Maybe I have shown this one before but I recently found it again and it felt good! The morbidly kiddie-friendly style and high energy socked in Japanese lore (Bushi is a type of Japanese folk music genre) really makes this one stick. Not too fond of the middle parts, but I instantly forget it when the main chiptunes kicks back in. I think I watched the video so many times on loop that I know the whole skeleton dance =D

all in all this looks to be a rathers sweet and real movie about the weird thing that we call love and how infatuated we get with it. It dosent throw famous hollywood actors, and special slapstick moments in our face but more a pure, fun and charming movie.

The film, based of Bernard Lenteric’s novel of the same name (French title: La nuit des enfants rois) centers around a group of gifted teenagers whose past traumas cause them to wreak havoc against the world, and the one person capable of putting a stop to their revenge.

Synopsis : "When we're together the world will be our thank you. This will be the night, the long Prodigies ... "

They are five, living across the United States. Five geniuses, adolescents with an intelligence capable of handling the incredible mind of others. Jaffar has Jimbo same abilities and looks like its always been. Through the multinational his adoptive father, Killianetworks, Jimbo finally managed to find them and bring them together. When children are victims of a violent assault in Central Park begins for the five gifted a new era of violence and revenge. The era of Prodigies. Then comes the time for Jimbo to choose: the stability of the adult world, or the destructive rage that has never really left since adolescence...

While not as detailed or polished as modern CGI productions, the cell-shaded/previz look has a unique style and is among the key elements that has me so pumped to check out the finished film. The animation and shear energy in the cinematography also helps also. I for once love a different style and who better to do this then the french ;)

This is the first feature from Antoine Charreyron, who perviosly directed games such as "Wet" (Eliza Dushku) and Wheelman (Vin Diesel), both over-the-top action video games

Seriously. It looks like Killer 7 meets Inception on acid. How can you not love that?

Crysis 2 MP Looks Amazingly Addictive!

I'm not a fan of online games. Those who knows me have heard this countless times. Its true. I tested some mmo-games out. Anarchy Online/Planetside but Ive always favored single players games since they are more story-driven, better character interactions and least of not all. Have better animations!

Ive had my online feasts at times with, SOF2, CS, Jedi knight, UT, Trackmanina, Fear Combat but this was mostly at LAN. Crysis 2 seams to really appeal to me with the incredible graphic, sophisticated dynamic gameplay with suit powers that change on the fly. I can see that its going for a really addictive play-style with the point system ala COD/MW so Ill properly devote some time on this one and brush the dust of my trigger finger ;)

The other ones after (rome/napoleon) just couldest reach up to the excellence to the shogun, this coupled with my deep interest in the style/battle tactis and mentality of the asian battlefields made me skip the other ones from CA.. And so it stayed until this year when they released that they would make Shogun 2

Back to the Future: Part II opens with the ending scene from the first movie. But anyone who has seen the movie more than once will know that the sequence was completely reshot. I’m sure there are a multitude of reasons why they didn’t just use the same footage, including the fact that Claudia Wells, who played Marty McFly’s girlfriend Jennifer Parker in the original film, had been recast with 1980′s movie hottie Elizabeth Shue. Also, the movie was shot nearly five years later, so they probably wanted Marty and Doc’s appearances to seem consistant with the rest of the film. But even then, they needed to try to make the reshot sequence look almost exactly the same as what was shown in the original film. The “a rejuvenation clinic” excuse Doc gives Marty once they arrive in 2015 was likely a excuse to get rid of the old man make-up Christopher Lloyd was forced to wear in the 1985 scenes of the original film.

Good grief.. Highly anticipated? Might be good. I still think fondly of "Flushed down" and beeing a huge Aardman fan, they might do good on the story. The poster is truly a teaser and dosent really say anything about the feel, other then the unlikely goofy hero with a heart of gold steps up.. Who knows. Might be fun

L.A. Noire Explores The Subtleties of Crime With Nuanced, Digital Actors

I've always been bothered by how out of sync, how unreal, digital actors look in video games. That's exacerbated in the sorts of games they expect you to read anything into the folks you run into in a game.

Imagine trying to tell if someone is lying to you when they're wearing an ill-fitting rubber mask. That's essentially the issue with most dialog-heavy video games, until now. If Rockstar is to be believed, this is a game created to "render every subtlety and nuance of an actor's facial expressions and emotions."

Why does that matter? Because in L.A. Noire you play a detective in the Los Angeles of the 1940s. Rockstar says the game has you trying to solve crimes through a "blend of classic action, clue-finding and interrogation, allowing players to analyze every subtle nuance of an actor's performance in order to get to the truth."

If they can do it, if these aren't just canned animations, then L.A. Noire could become an important piece of interactive fiction. More importantly, it could be one of the first games that allows you to use some of the real-world skills investigators tap into to solve crime.

France continues to kill it in the music video world as seen in this latest piece of greatness, an un-offical video for The Thunderclaps called Tudor Petru. In collaboration with WIZZ, this animation collective are still students at the powerhouse that is Gobelins.

Having worked with WIZZ on Jesus 2000 last year, they came in with their footage and camped out for two months to create one of the more captivating and energetic pieces of live-action and 2D mixed-media we have ever seen. It also gave me tons of AKIRA associations. Incredible timing and weight on the animation throughout. I wished more movies and games understood this consept

Amazingly I dident love this song immediately which is kinda odd since I swallowed almost everything else that they`ve given me =D

Took a couple of repeats for it to sneak under my skin. Its still not on par with the other stuff they`ve made for the movie (I know, Ive bookmarked the songs on youtube =D) but this is also more like the way Daft Punk scoring a Tron movie would sound like I guess

Im going to the sneak peak extravaganza the suits call "Tron day" Similar to Avatar, they are going to show 23 min of footage from the upcoming movie. I sadly don't really care for the story or characters in this one. Im all in for the effects and having a good time at the cinemas. (Looking forward to watch a real 3d movie for once.. Not this up-converted crap)

The original Tron was the one to really push me into working within the CG business and is still one of my beloved, yet flawed movie that I always can curl up with after a long day or on a rainy afternoon.

The old one live on sheer nostalgic feel, the fast editing and what people thought computers looked like inside. Its was really a original tale when it first came out and had the likes of Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, David Warner, Cindy Morgan to back up the light yet warm story elements..

Its light-cycle race is still, to this date, something people still recall as a genuine fun and immersive memory.. I wonder if they are even going to try and top that in the new one. I hope not, but the marketing and hollywood sense says otherwise

The new one looks to have been thoroughally upgraded into the dark and slick and the more flamboyant "reloaded" style.. Which I don't mind at all. If the rest is good that's a plus.

I've decided a long time ago that I will love this no matter what anyhoo =)

"Elevated" is a 1997 short film directed by Vincenzo Natali and co-written by him and Karen Walton, who also participated in the writing of Ginger Snaps.

Elevated is a phenomenal short film. A true horror-thriller, it employs a simple gimmick. The entirety of the film takes place on an elevator (kind of like my other favorite movies: Cube, Hard candy, Phonebooth, Buried, Nothing). From such a simple premise a remarkable amount of tension and horror is derived, delivered by a surprisingly diverse and dramatic shooting style in addition to excellent performances. The film begins with a woman and a man sharing an elevator at the end of the day. They are going down when a building security guard joins them. Covered in blood, he commandeers the elevator and sets it to go to the very top of the building. From there a tense psychological battle joins, as the security guard—not the most trustworthy of figures with his manic, panicked behavior, tries to convince the others that going down is not such a good idea.

If you’ve got an hour + I highly suggest you watching Bansky’s directorial debut Exit Through the Gift Shop which is airing free online because…that’s just how the internet seems to be these days.

Exit Through the Gift Shop may look and act like a mocumentary being all smoke and mirrors but it is a highly provocative mirror we look into, one that raises a ton of questions about the commercialization of art and even about the authenticity of the documentary form itself. Interesting film indeed

Im not a huge fan of the 3D Zemeckis, though I really am digging the craftmanship and tech that goes into the movies. The CG looks incredibly good but the characters are lacking. Boardering on "uncanny vally" alot. His "preformance capture" is really quite incredible (despite still looking overacted and the "dead-face" syndrome) and a huge step over regular motion capture, but they have yet to make me really love the characters portrayed in his movies. I am however curious about his new movie..

Walt Disney Pictures has released the first movie poster for the Robert Zemeckis’ produced adaptation of Berkley Breathed’s children’s book Mars Needs Moms. The performance capture film is being directed by The Prince of Egypt/The Time Machine helmer Simon Wells and stars Seth Green, Joan Cusack and Dan Fogler.

Plot:
A young boy named Milo gains a deeper appreciation for his mom after Martians come to Earth to take her away.

This year's titles for FOTB (Flash on the Beach) were created by Nando Costa through the use of macro motion pictures and materials with magnetic properties.

The choice of materials was driven by the desire to graphically represent the concepts of attraction and repulsion. The idea that graphic artists of all sorts attend events such as FOTB because they are inspired and therefore attracted to each other's work, while at the same time often competing in the same fields as peers, which represents the repulsion factor.

New Film From French Director, Romain-Gavras (M.I.A's Born Free)

You likely have never heard the name, "Romain-Gavras", but if you took in the arduous 9-minutes of M.I.A's "Born Free" video, unbeknownst to you, you have!

He's the son of French political filmaker, Costa-Gavras (Z and Missing), and has been creating a reputation of being a raw, shocking and intense filmaker, with videos like Justice's "Stess", and now, a feature film that also looks rather hard to stomach at moments.

His first film, Notre Jour Vienda (Our Day Will Come), stars Vincent Cassel and Olivier Barthelemy, and is the story of a teen who leaves Ireland after being a victim of abuse. The trailer doesn't do much for the narrative, although it does give you an insight into his style and the magnitude of the film's potential vigor.

The theatrical release is slated for September 15th, 2010.

This is neat. It's a "Fake Gameplay Footage" video that was used to pitch a now-canceled project at Ubisoft Montpelier. Fanny Vergne, one of the two 3D environment artists who worked on this video, released it and a whole bunch of renders and other cool stuff on her personal website.

The game, which was to be a third-person shooter, was to be set in London in the year 2032. Somehow, society and machines were co-existing but, clearly, something would have gone awry with that.

The video is pretty, that's for sure. I dug the bit where he takes control of the giant robot and I'm sure that could be a fun thing to do in a game though I'm not so sure how it would really differ from jumping on the back of any animal in a game. And now we'll never know...

Trailer

It looks alright. I want to go see this sorely for the Klatu looking destroyer at the end there. That and how much this is not the Nordic Thor that most Scandinavians now and love.

The action and framing looks decent. Not mind-blowing but ok. There is a bit of slightly tilted framing going on in Asgard that looks interesting (every thing slightly tilted automatically gets a thumb up from me)

There is something about their costumes/weapons weight that bugs me. Its meant to look heavy and hard to weld and since these are gods, its there for supposed to be easy for them and their movements aren't really hindered by it but it looks to cheap. They should have added some weight to it for feel and context. Then again, it might be the editing of the trailer and we see stuff out of context. Time will show.

For now, it looks ok. I do love that this is a five minute trailer and not a 01:30 trailer like the rest but this is also leaked from the comicon 2010 somehow.

It's been a long couple of years now since we first heard that Eric Powell's great monster/mobster comic THE GOON was becoming a feature film, courtesy of producer David Fincher (FIGHT CLUB, etc.) and FX company Blur Studios. So it's nice to see the project is still slowly coming to computer-rendered life. The Dark Horse comic revolves around a creature-punching mob enforcer and his mouthy buddy, and their misadventures in a bizarre monster-filled town.

As much as I was disappoint in the last Force Unleashed game, I'm gonna check out the sequel thats comming soon. The game had some nifty details, decent story and looked good, but was to arcadeic and platform-orientated. The combat was worse. Treating the lightsaber as a mere meele weapon is a cheap game-designer trick for grinding and adding "playtime" to your game. Batman Archam Asylum had the same tactic but at least there the combat flowed smooth and was skill-orientated and at least fun!

Anyhoo...

The reason for this post is that I recently became aware of a special edition of the Force Unleashed 2. Its gotten the whole deluxe packing with a slick presentation and Artbook. Thats well and fine but its the preorder bonus that annoys me. It comes with a skin and a "crystal" that makes your force powers not drain that fast..

Really.. Thats it? Ive worked with characters and adding a new skin/texture is not that hard, nor is it that time consuming. Im not saying that it has to be. But I feel like a extremely cheap trick. And adding to the insult is a "force-power-crystal". This is a simple input command into the game. I mean. Its just a bit too simple for it to be a preorder bonus. Why not go all out and add a new character. Not just skin, but new moves and some new levels for him/her. I realize that the rest of the gamers that dosent preorder gets angry, but most company`s release the preorder bonus later for a small fee anyway.

There is so much potential!

Im just saying. Treat your gamers! Make them really want to preorder the game!
Im gonna play some Jedi Knight Outcast in the meantime... At least there you can cut of limbs!

Christoffer Nolans Short Doodlebug

So I'm currently trying to stay away from any word of mouth on "Inception" as Im going to see it later today and the less I know the better. Ive seen the teaser trailer, but avoided the official one. So much so that I litterly stuck my head down in the popcorn bag while on the screening for Prince of Percia. I've been warming up with re-watching Memento (one of my favourite movies) and The Prestige (also just amazing in its own terms) and rented both the Norwegian film Insomnia and Nolan's remake as I'm sure Ile be wanting more after tonights premiere.

In my search of finding more about the works of the director ,I came upon a short he did 12-13 years ago. The style is familiar, and as much as the premise is more high concept, the action is bad. Never the less. It does the job. The short film, titled Doodlebug, was made in 1997, and stars Jeremy Theobald who also starred in Nolan’s debut feature "Following" (which is going to be released later this year)

I think you’ll readily identify themes that run throughout much of Nolan’s later work. Notably, matters of being, paranoia, the dark nature of the material etc.

The gun-play/gun feel hasn't been updated since Freedom Fighters/Hitman 1. I mean, I love IO Interactive but they need more "Omphf"/kickback in their weapons (and yes I know that Lynch was firing with a silencer) It just needs more of an impact on the environment thats all, but Im loving the new art direction for the game (Here`s hoping for no more jungle missions!)

This is just amazing... Now days if you purhase the blue-ray of UP/Star Trek or any new movie, you get the blue-ray plus the dvd AND a digital download? The hell? I just want the blueray.. Not everything..!!

This also costs more in shipping and in packing. I dont use digital download and regular dvds that are bundled I give away to others.. If I want the dvd, then Ile buy the dvd! (which usually costs about the same as a blue-ray anyways...) AND I have to endure tons of commercials as well.. (Kids movies are pure hell!) OR I can get it clean and ready in hd in torrentform..

It's a vicious circle since the more people download, the worse the dvd/bluerays get.. and more expensive.. This also goes deeper into the type of movies that are produced but thats another story

New review!

First of all. I know nothing about the character, nor the story of Solomon Kayne other then that he is from the creator of Conan. Now, I'm a avid Conan fan (since 9-10 years) but when I heard there was going to be a movie about this character, I literally jumped for joy since I think Robert E. Howard creates such fantastic tales and worlds.

I also found it quite intriguing that its wasn't your typical "Holly-film" with big names. This is a trend that have existed for a long, long time but lately filmmakers have begun to direct outside of the corporate system in order not to have the investors ruin the movies. Fine examples of this is recent movies like The Hurt Locker, Moon, District 9, and lately Kick-ass. this is a really good trend and since its become easier for filmmakers to apply effects and such they can limit their budget quite. Another thing is that you also get unknown actors really that fit the movie structure and arcs needed. Plus there is now way of them just hamming it up through the movie, as big stars sometimes tend to do.

But this movie has its sheer amount of stars. Solomon Kane (James Purefoy) is a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth's army fighting in Africa, where he comes face-to-face with the Devil's Reaper – a demon who collects the Devil's debts i.e. souls – refusing to go to hell just yet, he evades the Reaper and starts a new life in an English monastery. With this new life, Solomon has left-behind his culture of violence and bloodshed and instead now embraces the values of peace and non-values. But once he is expelled from the monastery due to the fear of the Devil's Reaper returning, he must travel back to his home in Devon and along the way he befriends a travelling family of puritans heading to the New World. On their journey through the British counties, the family is attacked, and their daughter Meredith (Rachel Hurd-Wood) is abducted by the evil sorcerer Malachi's army, which is lead on the front lines by the mysterious Masked Rider. Now a man of peace, Solomon must go back to his former life as a man of unrepentant violence and destruction to save Meredith.

Kane is real douche in the start of the movie and I found little remorse or empathy for his ways of getting to the goal, but after his encounter, he is truly a "changed" man and he then starts to form a bond with the traveling family. His sins are never forgotten as his speaks clearly about his past. There is no sugarcoating here. He has done terrible things. We learn that as a young boy he was forced into priesthood by his father (Max von Sydow), but refused and ran away from home. Leaving the empire that his father and brother now rule in, he sets of for gold and glory

The characters both look and feels genuine. The costume is top-notch and highly authentic.
Some of the main characters are introduced a bit to late. Like the main baddie Malichi, who controls the mysterious rider and his army of corrupted. He is only spoken for thought the movie but only shows up the last 5 minutes. A small intro/encounter of this character would have been a huge improvement for the main arc

The atmosphere is what sells the movie and is superb and really sets the mood. Its half-snowing, foggy and plain eerie. It bears all the markings of a fantasy landscape and interesting setting. It also helps that there is dead people and crows everywhere. Hanging from trees getting their skin devoured. Its raining and theres mud all over. The filming must have been hell, but it really pays of and gives the movie a right feel. Its the way a Robert E. Howard movie should look and feel. Desolate plains, castles and villages, brewing with dark magic and all covered in strong religious themes.

I had a blast watching this. The pacing is for the most part good and felt proper for such a movie of this genre. Its a good romp and a fun time. The actions are believable. Characters could have been developed a bit more as well as interacted more. The story kinda unfolds along the way. giving it a unpredictable ending. Theres a lot of gore and fast-paced action shots. The fighting is quite good and topped of with some amazing slow-motion sequences. There is also quite a lot of effects in this movie and they do look on par with most big budget movies nowadays. the costume design and atmosphere is really a breath of fresh air and gives the movie a solid style.

Despite being a "low budget" film, the director get the most out of it and then some. If your a fan of the fantasy/action genre, then this is a must watch!

Epic review of Star wars episode 2

Mike from Red Letter Media (AKA the guy who put together the epic, 70-minute review of The Phantom Menace) is back again with his even epic-er review of Attack of the Clones. This time, seven Youtube videos were insufficient to contain the hatred, so Mike spread out a 90-minute review over nine Youtube videos. See them all , and let the hate flow through you.

Part 1 begins, “Star Wars, Episode 2: Attack of the Clones is the worst thing ever made by a human…” That basically sets the tone for the rest of the review:

This is a really in-depth review and a good one at that.. but its way, way to long and could have been conduced to a 30 min review perhaps.. There is also a lot of "serial-killer", "mad geek" skits that I dont really find amusing. Other then the sheer absurdity of them.

But the whole "we have to have a lightsaber shown every five minutes" blew me away. (that and the younglings training gear)

Movie Review: The Money Pit

Story:
Walter Fielding (Tom Hanks) and Anna Crowley (Shelley Long) have to start looking for a new house- but there's not much they can afford! This soon changes when they meet a lonely old con-artist who sells them a beautiful mansion at a ridiculously low price. Only there's a catch. The second Walter and Anna move in to the house it falls apart, starting from the stairway, to the bath falling through the roof to eventually the chimney falling into the house! Finally, they have to renovate the house before the frame collapses but the renovations also prove to be a disaster. This creates strains on their relationship as well an a former ex husband, Max, still chases Anna..

So having just bought a house for myself and done some much needed renovations, plus loving 80`s Tom Hanks, I decided one day to watch this gem from the golden years.

Just following this couple through the different strains thats put on their relationship was worth the watch along. Both Tom and Shelly are top notch actors and certainly know how to do subtle anger and god ol slapstick often at the same time. Stepping in as the evil ex is Alexander Godunov playing Max Beissart, the Orchestra maestro with a god complex and not only is he a ex. He`s also Shellys musical director since she`s playing in the orchestra that he`s directing (brilliantly showed but not explained)

Thats one of the reasons that I wanted to see an "older film" Ive grown tired of not really being challenged and having the characters explain what they are thinking. 80`s and 90`s movies are more complex, adult, and don't make a fool out of the audience-member.

Every home owner will recognize some of the situations they encounter. All from bad electrics to shifty carpenters. The damage done to the house is small at first the then gradually gets worse and worse... But the funny bit is also just seeing them handle it without loosing it

The ending is a bit to simple in my taste. But it does round up the movie and isn't way out there to cliché in terms of overdoing it.

Freaking Nolan North!

Who? No, he`s not a pornstar..

You might not know his slightly skinnier "Seth Macfarlane mug" from this single photo alone (unless you watch "Port Charles" or "General Hospital") but if you have played any big game the last two years his voice is highly recognizable.

He`s mostly know for the Uncharted series but he`s also been the voice star of Assassins creed, Army of Two, The Saboteur, Dragon Age, HALO ODST, Red Faction Guerrilla, Gears of War 2 and Prince of Persia... Complete list here

It was when I started playing Dark Void that my mind started to recognize his voice. I thought to myself that the main character of Dark Void (who`s name slipped my mind and aren't particularly interesting) looked an awfully lot like Nathan Drake in both modeling and volume wise. Although a bit more cartoony. I thought to myself: My god, even the characters are starting to look like each other in todays games.. First it was the brown/gray, overly parallax mapped environments, now this? Whats next? Will they use the same voice actors also?

And then the character spoke......

SAME DUDE!

Ile admit that it did take couple of minutes before I recognized his voice.. but once it clicked, a flash of characters rushed before me.

Me beef is not with him (although I do want to send him to a "Just Say NO" - course) plus having the same character in a huge blockbuster AAA game in your small production do cast a little light on the product and is not a totally new concept. Just look at Ron Pearlman, Dennis Hopper, Ben Kinglsy, Udo Kier! HECK, any Uwe Boll movie!

My main beef is with producers of the games. Don't they realize that they undermine the players and their own games by doing such a dick move? It breaks the illusion that thousand of artists creates and gamers experience!

I'm pretty sure getting a good voice actor is nothing if not a daunting assignment and therefore its pretty tempting to just go with a guy hows already got a long run of voice-acting but the same dude for several MAIN characters?

I'm slightly disappointed and more offended, but then again the gaming suits couldn't care less about that..

I just wanted to make sure more people got the news... Now if you will excuse me, Ile play some Just cause 2.. At least there the dialogue is so overplyed and terrible that Ile forget about Nathan... At least until Uncharted 3 comes out..

So, Im curently working on a character... (Well, started tonight =D)

If he turns out really good I might make a small movie out of it. Im kinda done blocking him out for now. Needs hands and feet. I'm not to worried about the details such as edgeloops and anatomy as that will come later. Im also intentionally avoiding Modeling tools as Zbrush and Mudbox as I want to get into the nitty-gritty of edges and vertexes in Max

I intend to rig, skin and pose him as well as all the other parts of making a finished character (texturing, shading, lighting and maybe some post-production)

"Connected" - Sci fi short

A sci-fi western Directed by Jens Raunkjær Christensen and Jonas Drotner Mouritsen from Denmark

Set in the distant future, Connected is a story about survival and greed with a post apocalyptic wasteland as its backdrop. Survivors of an unknown disaster shuffle through a desolate landscape, as it quickly becomes clear that not everybody has the strength to survive.

Visually this looks better then I though... unfortunately, the story is way short and under-worked. Too bad, because it could have become a great short since the premise was so intriguing

Love the plot: Set in 2039, the film promises non-stop high flying action as the greatest fighters from around the world come to compete in the last and greatest sporting event of all time – the Fist Tournament. After World Wars destroy much of civilization as we know it, the remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations the mightiest of which is Tekken. In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

Ohh well, at least it cant be worse the Dragonball Z, DOA and Street fighter Chun Li? Right...? RIGHT?!?!

PROJECT 880: THE AVATAR THAT ALMOST WAS...

I found this very interesting article about the script for James Cameron`s Avatar that I wanted to share with you all.

This summer I wrote an article about the development process of Terminator Salvation and how it led to a movie that, in the end, didn't go as far as it could have. While I still think Salvation is a more or less okay entry in the franchise - much better than Rise of the Machines - the decisions made along the way still intrigue me. For that column I had access to original scripts and some insider info; when it comes to Avatar I don't have that. All I have is the 114 page scriptment that Cameron wrote after Titanic, a scriptment known at the time as Project 880. This scriptment is very similar to the final movie in broad strokes, but in the details it's quite different. Much has been lost from the original scriptment, and much of what has been kept was abridged. I don't have much behind the scenes info on this - I don't know why Cameron made the changes that he made - but I think a film closer to the original scriptment would have been noticeably different and, in my opinion, much, much better. Some of this would be added depth of the world - a friend who read the scriptment compared it to seeing a Harry Potter movie and then reading the book upon which it was based; all of a sudden things are richer and make more sense - but some of it would have added depth of character and emotion.

I hope you find comparisons of different phases of a movie's life as interesting as I do; I'd like to do more articles like this in the future, tracking the changes that have been made on long-in-development projects.

In the meantime, if you're sick of reading about Avatar or any of my thoughts on Avatar, please feel free to skip this article. Comments complaining about another Avatar article will be immediately deleted.

For those who don't want to read this all, some bullet points. Read the entire piece for in-depth description and analysis, but these bullet points are the main, stark differences between Project 880 and Avatar:

- Earth and its environmental problems are explored
- We see Josh Sully's Avatar being born
- It's revealed the Avatar program exists to train Na'vi to be an indigenous workforce for the Corporation, since it's so expensive to send human workers
- There are more humans, including a bioethics officer on the take, a video journalist, a head of the Avatar program and a second military dickwad
- There is an Avatar controller who is burnt out because his Avatar died with him in it. He committed Avatar suicide because he had fallen in love with a Na'vi girl who had been killed by the military
- The Avatars have a Na'vi guide named N'Deh, who is sleeping with Grace
- Grace survives the soul transfer
- Josh Sully gains the Na'vi trust by being a member of the community. He also excels in a major hunt
- Josh Sully shows his leadership not by taming a dragon but by leading a raid on Hell's Gate to rescue prisoners
- Josh Sully isn't the only Na'vi to ride a big dragon
- Pandora is a living entity and it sees the humans as a virus; it has been mobilizing the plants and animals to attack all along because it wanted to force the humans out
- There is no unobtainium beneath Hometree. The military just wants to wipe out the local Na'vi to send a message to all the tribes that they must be obeyed.
- Some of the humans and the Avatar controllers rise up in the final big battle
- Josh Sully tells the Earth that Pandora will give any humans that return a disease that will wipe out humanity

"Project 880" is more Cameron then "Avatar" finally became in my opinion. Its way more layered and give much more to delve on then "the heroes journey" that is now. Its also more dark and heavy. I totally get why they went with a more "light" script. This movie cost a fortune to make and this must be covered box office wise so its understandable. Pluss had they gone ahead with 880 then then the movie would have been at least 5 hours long =P

Ohh well at least they are in the processes of making the sequel AVATAR 2.. because I do think that we all want to see more of this magnificent universe

Movie review Sherlock Holmes

Plot: Detective Sherlock Holmes and his stalwart partner Watson engage in a battle of wits and brawn with a nemesis whose plot is a threat to all of England.

I had no expectation for Guy Richie's version of Holmes going in to the cinema, and I came away the same. The movie in its own was fun, quick, and had strong characters but it bump into tempo issues, and somewhat pointless character arcs. I almost forgot it 10 minutes after I saw it.

It lack the spark that Richie is known for. Its there, but its a bit to conveyorbelt with Robert Downey Jr driving the whole thing. Its to safe and by the book/suits if you ask me. Also I was a bit sadend to see guy Richie making such a bland frame to work with.. Slow-motion aside. Was there really any scenes that stood out? Don't get me wrong. It was nicely shot and edited but the whole thing seemed so artificial and quick.

CGI also stands out alot in this one. This might be because we have been overexposed to it the last years. It gave me the same feeling that Steven Summers have (Director of Mummy series/Van helsing/GI JOE) Maybe this was intended but it stood out alot in booth good and bad ways. Everything is dirty and I think the closest thing to a clean Holmes we get is in the poster. He looks nothing like it in the movie. His character was a little two sided for me as he`s scruffy, drugged out looking drinker at one point and then he has to sharpen up and become the master detective, three min later. These two sides of his performance collided to much for me and left me thinking that the writers wanted Downey's rough shenanigans as well as the traditional Sherlock that we all know. It became just to much of a mix.

The strongest "character beat" for me when Holmes had "agreed" to go to a dinner with Watsons fiancée. This is a sequence where you can really see Holmes struggle to work within a social environment as he is obsessed with details. Also strong is the sequence right after where he dissects the fiancée. The way this is delivered was spot on perfect and really explained alot between Holmes and Watson relationship

Granted the bromance between Holmes and Watson was fun and well developed but it came out of such a weird angle that I was more baffled to why the hell do this characters like each-other? This was semi-saved by Holmes "planting" objects for Watson in order for him to get intrigued but it didn't ad up and left a strange rhythm between the two leads. Holmes was a real douchebag in certain scenes and while the audience was laughing I got the feeling that it got underplayed. Like the setting and characters where just there in-order to make a certain joke. I cant really explain it but it took me out of it.

Rachel Macadams is a good actress but here she is just the plaything/instigator for Holmes to follow a "plan" She might have been designed inorder to work for a franchise perhaps? She was kinda interesting since we are told nothing of this character in advance and she totally owns Holmes (twice) but then the interest for her fades as we are given (a bit to obvious) clues about her and Holmes history and she gets reduced to a plot device unfortunately

The mystery was also way to undefined for me to follow. Its almost as if you weren't supposed to figure stuff out on your own as well as it feeding you way to much of what to believe just to snag it away at the last act. I was left cheated and after a while I didn't really care what was going on since it was going to be explained anyway at the end. It didn't really have a overall impact on what was going on. Its way to much all over. Plus at the very end, your introduced to another thing

The one thing that got me intrigued was how Mark Strongs character Lord Blackwood had survived the hanging. That was really the only thing that got me trough the movie. Plot wise that is

Bottom line:
The movie is fun and quick and it pulls most of the mysteries together so that most plot holes are covered before the ending. It got a little to "da vinci code" at times where you got flashbacks to something that would act as a much stronger act device if left alone.

I might be overreacting for a "fun" movie, but the movie is highly forgettable which is really sad. Its a lot of fun and its style is great but it feels nutated and done quick. If at all at least Guy Richie is making movies again.

Now I dont really care for MMO`s but this is really a good idea! Its stacked full of charm (if you played any of the old Lego games and IF the game doesn't get toned down or anything) and its got every possible scenario ever conceived as shown in the trailer. Western, Middleages, Fantasy, Pirates even Space! How are they going to top this?

It also makes the updates quite easy since its just adding more bits of pieces! haha Get it.. BITS of pieces... Ohh lord.. hmm.. ok Ile stop now =P

Indie game lookout: VVVVVV

Taking its graphical inspiration from games of the Spectrum/C64 era, VVVVVV is based upon a gravity-flipping mechanic. Instead of jumping, the stranded hero of this game is able to reverse gravity at the touch of a button, immediately falling upward into the ceiling.

Creator Terry Cavanagh has released a downloadable demo for both Mac and PC, as well as a browser-based Flash version on Kongregate. The full game is around $15.

This game is hard, so expect a lot of replay. Luckily the creator has incorporated this trial end error gameplay to its full extent. Simple and mindbogglingly cool

Some really sad news here from a statement released by Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement homepage:

December 10th

Bret, Jemaine and James (co-creator/director) said “we've noticed the less we say about the future of the show, the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won't be returning for a 3rd season. We're very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the way the show ended. We'd like to thank everyone who helped make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist.

I love "flight" and it was really a highlight in TV history. Id rather that they end it now then too gradually fade out with bad jokes and effortless songs.. We wouldn't want it to turn into a Lost or similar but that its rather remembered for the 2 seasons that was. (Much like Spaced and Black Books). A wise move yet sad.. Brett and Jermaine however are not done though, as they are now appearing in other stuff such as shows, films, and gigs! Hussa!

You`ve done a great job and most possibly sparked a lot of similar artist. Thank you so much for it all. It was a highlight in a very very bleak time of my life =d

This is the story of Mark Ho once worked for an animation studio and created a human like puppet model for them. Eventually he got the idea of creating the ultimate puppet, one which could duplicate the full range of human movement and it's grace.

As he continued to work in film he found it wasn't really what he wanted to do. Mark notes, “I finished my study and doubted my future as a director or scriptwriter. I learned that I like to work alone and to have total control. In the film industry you are dependent on crew, budget, producers etc. I decided to learn everything about metalwork. When I work with metal creating something from a to z, making even the tools myself, it is the ultimate work for me. It is a beautiful mix of precision, patience, skill and designing, and also that feeling to give shape to a material like metal.”

The puppet is built from 920 parts (101 for each hand alone), has about the same mass- and weight distribution as a human (the whole figure is 43 cm/6 kilos) and it took six years to build and now with all plans etc. He says in place it would take about five seven months to create another one. He plans to make a small series of 25 hand made versions and he also wants to do other objects.

This is incredibly beautiful and truely can show tons of human emotes. I just love the look but from a design perspective and the use of materials. Truly great art!
Its so artsy that it costs around 39000 to 50000 dollars for just one! Damn.. its just out of price budget!

I am Joss Whedon, the mastermind behind Titan A.E., Parenthood (not the movie) (or the new series) (or the one where 'hood' was capitalized 'cause it was a pun), and myriad other legendary tales. I have heard through the 'grapevine' that the Terminator franchise is for sale, and I am prepared to make a pre-emptive bid RIGHT NOW to wrap this dealio up. This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is not available on TV. I will write a check TODAY for $10,000, and viola! Terminator off your hands.

No, you didn't miscount. That's four -- FOUR! -- zeroes after that one. That's to show you I mean business. And I mean show business. Nikki Finke says the Terminator concept is played. Well, here's what I have to say to Nikki Finke: you are a fine journalist and please don't ever notice me. The Terminator story is as formative and important in our culture -- and my pretend play -- as any I can think of. It's far from over. And before you Terminator-Owners (I have trouble remembering names) rush to cash that sweet cheque, let me give you a taste of what I could do with that franchise:

1) Terminator... of the Rings! Yeah, what if he time-travelled TOO far... back to when there was dragons and wizards? (I think it was the Dark Ages.) Hasta La Vista, Boramir! Cool, huh? "Now you gonna be Gandalf the Red!" RRRRIP! But then he totally helps, because he's a cyborg and he doesn't give a s#&% about the ring -- it has no power over him! And he can carry it AND Frodo AND Sam AND f@%& up some orcs while he's doing it. This stuff just comes to me. I mean it. (I will also offer $10,000 for the Lord of the Rings franchise).

2) More Glau. Hey. There's a reason they're called "Summer" movies.

3) Can you say... musical? Well don't. Even I know that's an awful idea.

4) Christian Bale's John Connor will get a throat lozenge. This will also help his Batwork (ten grand for that franchise too, btw.)

5) More porn. John Connor never told Kyle Reese this, but his main objective in going to the past was to get some. What if there's a lot of future-babies that have to be made? Cue wah-wah pedal guitar -- and dollar signs!

6) The movies will stop getting less cool.

Okay. There's more -- this brain don't quit! (though it has occasionally been fired) -- but I think you get my drift. I really believe the Terminator franchise has only begun to plumb the depths of questioning the human condition during awesome stunts, and I'd like to shepherd it through the next phase. The money is there, but more importantly, the heart is there. But more importantly, money. Think about it. End this bloody bidding war before it begins, and put the Terminator in the hands of someone who watched the first one more than any other movie in college, including "Song of Norway" (no current franchise offer).
